Day 1 in Morocco

Day 1, we’re starting with a bang in the largest port city in Morocco – Casablanca. People travel from all over to visit Casablanca for religious reasons, the gorgeous beaches, or simply to enjoy the authentic Morocco experience.

This cultural hub is perfect for your first stop in Morocco!

Best things to do in Casablanca:

  • Explore Casablanca’s Old Medina (the town’s old center)
  • Do some shopping in the Old & New Medina
  • Visit some of the city’s famous museums like Dar El Ala & Villa of Arts
  • Eat some of the best Moroccan cuisines like seafood pastilla & zaazaa

Day 2

The capital city, Rabat, Morocco, is on the agenda for day 2. While Rabat is smaller than Casablanca, it has a rich history with several cultural sites, gorgeous architecture, and fantastic weather.

Besides the amazing sites, Rabat is an excellent choice to get more of the traditional Moroccan experience. So, it’s unsurprising the whole city has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Rabat is a lovely welcome away from the hectic city of Casablanca and will allow you some relaxation before embarking on the rest of your trip.

Top things to do in Rabat, Morocco:

  • Explore Chellah Necropolis – ancient medieval ruins dating back to the 14th century.
  • Stroll through Rabat’s Medina
  • Learn more about Moroccan history at the Rabat Archaeology Museum.
  • Take a relaxing walk through the beautiful Jardins Exotiques.

Day 3 of the Morocco Itinerary 7 days

After exploring all the capital city offers, we’re spending day 3 in the ‘Red City’ – Marrakech. Well-known for its luxury spas, Mechlin star restaurants, and warm & welcoming hospitality, Marrakech is a city that keeps people coming back.

The Red City is full of markets, museums, palaces, gardens, ancient passageways, and much more. Which makes it perfect for a day trip!

How to spend a day in Marrakech:

  • Get immersed in the Marrakech culture by exploring & shopping around in the medinas & markets. Also, don’t forget to visit some souks! Souk Semmarine is the biggest.
  • Explore the botanical garden, Jardin Majorelle
  • Catch the sunset over the giant square Jemaa el-Fna.
  • Stay in a Riad – this is one of the best ways to see Moroccan architecture.

Trust me – you DON’T want to miss this bustling city.

Day 5  in the Sahara Desert

Next on this Morocco Itinerary is a trip to the Sahara Desert. A vacation to Morocco isn’t complete until you visit the Sahara Desert. With so many ways to experience the desert’s out-of-this-world scenery, it’s no wonder it’s popular among tourists.

Now, reaching the Sahara desert in just a day is almost impossible, so I put it towards the end of the trip. (Although you can fit it into your trip however you want.) Because of the lengthy journey, I recommend setting aside at least 3-4 days for the Sahara. But believe me, it’s WORTH IT.

The best way to explore the desert is to book a tour. These tours usually include stops in the small towns on the way, like Merzouga, and fun activities like camel riding & an ATV experience in the desert.

Day 6 in Merzouga Morocco

A small village on the edge of the vast Sahara Desert, Merzouga is well-known because of its proximity to the Erg Chebbi, a stretch of sand dunes. This town is usually one of the first stops on the Sahara Desert tours because of this.

You’ll explore Merzouga during your desert tour, but if you happen to be visiting on your own, try some adventurous activities like camping or camel riding.

How to Spend a Day in Merzouga, Morocco:

*If you only have 6 days in Morocco, you can stop here or switch out a day with the activities below.*

Day 7 in Tangier Morocco

The last day of our one week in Morocco itinerary is the fascinating city, Tangier Morocco. This city is the perfect mix of African & European cultures. And it’s noticeable everywhere you look, in the food, architecture, people, and more.

Spend the day experiencing the mesh of cultures by shopping in the souks, eating yummy food, visiting museums, and strolling through the old town center.

Best Things to do in Tangier, Morocco:

  • Visit the mythical Caves of Hercules
  • Spend time admiring the Achakar Beach
  • Tour St Andrew’s Church
  • Explore the gorgeous Medina
  • Learn more about ancient artifacts in the Kasbah Museum

I hope this Moroccan itinerary is helpful for your trip to Northern Africa.

Wishing you safe & happy travels.
