It is the night before your big, 2-week vacation, and you couldn’t be more excited—the first real trip since Covid hit. You are praying nothing stops this much-needed vacation from happening. As it’s the day before the trip, you should be making sure any last-minute items are packed and resting before the journey. Well, this is real life, and sometimes things aren’t as perfect as in the movies.

If you’re anything like me, you are bouncing around the house from the excitement of the trip, plus the added stress and worry because you are behind on packing. And I’m willing to bet this isn’t the first time this has happened.

In 2022, we are living a stress-free life. So that means making life as simple for ourselves as possible. We can begin by making our travel preparations much less complicated. Here are my top tips on what to do the day before a big trip.

make a list

Make a list

Some days, I feel like if my head weren’t attached to my body, I’d lose it. That’s to say – I have trouble remembering things sometimes. Cue in my best friend: LISTS! Creating lists to remember essential things such as what to put in the suitcase or all the last-minute items you need will make preparing during the day before your trip a breeze.

The most useful lists for me the day before include the following:

  • A list of toiletries
  • A list of entertainment for the journey (books, podcasts, journals, etc.)
  • A list of must-have items (phone, wallet, passport, etc.)
  • And, of course, a playlist for the road!

Relax

Relax

As I mentioned earlier, we are living stress-free in 2022. So that means before any trip, you must get the proper relaxation. Try to make the day as streamless and chill as possible. At this point, you should only be waiting until it’s time to leave. The calm sense of being I get from relaxing before I go sets the remainder of my trip up for success. By entering the journey with the right mindset, you will maintain the same attitude throughout your adventure.

Here are some activities I recommend for relaxing:

  1. Get plenty of rest
  2. Stretch
  3. Eat regularly
  4. Drink water
  5. Do something that brings you joy, such as reading, exercising, dancing, etc.
  6. Mediate
  7. Journal (or talk to yourself in some way)
  8. Make it a spa day

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you take the day slowly.

Let things be as they are

And the last piece of advice I have is to let things be as they are. As much as we like to think we are in control, we aren’t. So, there is no point worrying about something already meant to happen. That is a waste of energy. Instead, focus on how you react and adapt to what has happened. Concentrate your energy on yourself instead of the situation, and you will remain calm when some things don’t go as planned.

Remember that you can only control yourself, so it’s best to let things be as they are and adjust yourself accordingly.

Smart Tips for Preparing for Any Trip

Smart tips for preparing for any trip

Block time off to pack

It’s best to block off a specific time to do the packing to prevent doing things at the last minute. This simple task will save you so much headache in the long run. Trust me – it’s WORTH IT!

And I always say, if you want something done, write it down. You are three times more likely to do it when you write it down! So, make sure to add packing to your calendar next time you’re heading out on an adventure.

Start early

The simplest way to ensure the day before a big trip is stress-free is to start preparing early. This tip is for all the procrastinators out there (me included).  I know it can be tempting to wait until the last minute to get everything ready, but doing things that way is a recipe for disaster. You’re much more likely to forget something important. So, to prevent this, start getting ready early! The extra time gives you room to catch any mishaps and prepare without the stress of the clicking clock. You will thank yourself later!

Gone are the days of rushed chaos the day before a big trip. Instead, we’re doing things a new way now. We are correctly preparing, relaxing, and letting things be as they are so that any vacation we take this year is as peaceful as it can be.

We are off to bigger & better things in 2022.

I wish you all the very best. Until next time.
